How to Fold an Origami Pikachu

Pikachu is a fictional creature from Pokémon. It is one of the most recognizable and iconic Pokémon. Let’s create a Pikachu with a single piece of paper in a sitting position, and put it on your desk, then it will keep you company while you are studying and working. It features a flash-like tail and adorable ears, just like the image we see on TV.

Material

Get a piece of 15×15 cm origami square paper, with one yellow and one white side, to create a 7.5×5 cm origami Pikachu. Experiment with different colors and patterns, making your product more unique.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Start with the white side of the paper facing up, fold it in half vertically, and unfold it.

Step 2

Fold the bottom left and right edges to align with the vertical crease.

Step 3

Fold down the top triangle.

Step 4

Fold the left and right sections of the top edge to align with the vertical line, crease them well, and unfold them.

Step 5

Unfold the paper completely.

Step 6

Bring up the four edges along the existing creases indicated by the dotted lines, as the first two pictures show. Then you will get three flaps as the third picture shows, and finally, push down the left and right flaps upward.

Step 7

Then fold down the left and right flaps, and fold them back to the top.

Step 8

Squash the top flap.

Step 9

Fold the bottom left and right edges of the top square to align with its middle vertical crease, crease them well, and unfold them.

Step 10

Fold down the top point along the dotted line, and unfold it.

Step 11

Lift up the top layer of this top square, shape the left and right creases, then push the left and right points toward the center, and finally flatten the pocket.

Step 12

Fold down the top point very little, and fold down the top edge along the dotted line[picture 2]. Finally, fold down this layer along the horizontal crease indicated by the dotted line[picture 3].

Step 13

Fold this top layer in half vertically from the right to the left, then fold the top left edge of the layer you just folded to the left to align with the vertical crease, and finally fold this layer back to the right side.

Step 14

Similarly, fold the left layer to the right side, then fold its top right edge to align with the middle vertical crease of the paper, and finally fold this layer back to the left side.

Step 15

Rotate the paper 180 degrees from the left to the right to flip it over.

Step 16

Fold the top left and right edges to align with the middle vertical crease, and unfold them.

Step 17

Rotate it 180 degrees from the left to the right, to turn over the paper.

Step 18

Flip the top right layer to the left along the middle vertical line, then take the top point of the right upper layer, and press it down a little, next shape the crease indicated by the red dotted line[picture 3].

Finally, push the flap you just press down upward a little, and flip the left layer back to the right side, then flatten the fold. Now you get one of its ears, for a more adorable look in the final product, we suggest you make slightly longer ears.

Step 19

Repeat this for the left side to create another ear.

Flip the left layer to the right side, then take the top point of the left upper layer, and press it down a little, next shape the crease indicated by the red dotted line[picture 3].

Finally, gently lift the flap you just pressed down, flip the right layer back over to the left side, and then flatten the fold.

Step 20

Rotate it 180 degrees from the left to the right to flip the paper over.

Fold down the top point, and unfold it.

Open this top pocket, and fold down the top point again, then flatten the pocket.

Step 23

Unfold the left and right layers, and turn over the paper.

Step 24

Fold the bottom left and right edges toward the center along the dotted lines. These dotted lines pass through a red dot, which is the intersection of two creases. Crease them well, and unfold them.

Step 25

Press down the left and right points, then fold the bottom left and right edges to align with the middle vertical crease. Next, fold the bottom part in half vertically, making the opening face down.

Flip the paper over.

Step 27

Pull the tail upward, then press down the bottom left and right standing sides. The third image shows the view from the bottom after folding.

Step 28

Push the left and right edges toward the center, and press down the middle of the bottom edge, then the left and right layers will meet at the center, and finally tuck the left one into the right one.

Step 29

Shape the left and right edges of the tucked part, then valley fold its middle vertical line, this will better fix these two layers.

Step 30

Rotate it 90 degrees from the left to the right.

Fold up the tail along the black dotted line, then fold it back to the bottom for a short section, and finally fold it up again.
