Welcome to this step-by-step tutorial for creating the beautiful Phu Tran Origami Rose! This elegant paper rose is a wonderful variation of the classic Kawasaki Rose
The Phu Tran variation maintains the beautiful spiral form that makes rose designs so captivating but introduces several key differences. Most notably, Tran’s design features modified petal shapes that create a slightly more open bloom, giving the rose a different stage of blossoming compared to the Kawasaki original.
This origami rose dares to embrace the complexity, which would be a great choice for origami lovers who want to challenge themselves. But this difficulty will bring you a greater sense of accomplishment๏ผ

If you are new to origami, start here from our beginner guide to know the basics and how to read the step-by-step instructions.
- Folding time: 1 Hour
- Paper: 15ร15 cm/1 12ร12 cm/1 6ร6 cm/3
- Difficulty: Advanced
Material
Prepare a piece of 15ร15 cm origami red paper for the rose part, 12ร12 cm green origami paper for the stem part, and three pieces of 6ร6 cm green origami paper, one for the pedicel and two for the leaves.

Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Place the paper with the red side facing up to begin folding, fold it in half horizontally, crease the left and right sides to get two short creases, and unfold it.

Step 2
Fold the bottom left corner to meet the intersection point formed by the left edge and the crease you made in the previous step, leaving a short crease on the bottom left side, and unfold it.

Step 3
Fold the top right corner to meet the intersection point formed by the right edge and the crease you made in step 1, leaving a short crease on the top right side, and unfold it.
Rotate the paper a little counterclockwise.

Step 4
Fold the bottom corner up to make the two intersection points indicated by the white spots meet, then fold the bottom right corner to meet the bottom left corner, leaving a vertical crease, and unfold it.

Step 5
Here, we can see the middle vertical crease divides the bottom edge into two halves.
Now, fold the bottom right corner to the midpoint of the bottom edge (where the vertical crease intersects the bottom edge) to create a new point that bisects the right half of the bottom edge.
Finally, fold the bottom right corner again to this new point, creating another point that bisects the rightmost section of the bottom edge.

Step 6
Repeat the previous for the left side.
Fold the bottom left corner to the midpoint of the bottom edge to create a new point that bisects the left half of the bottom edge.
Finally, fold the bottom left corner again to this new point, creating another point that bisects the leftmost section of the bottom edge.

Step 7
Fold the bottom left corner to meet the rightmost intersection point, leaving a vertical crease, and unfold it.
Fold the bottom right corner to meet the leftmost intersection point, leaving a vertical crease, and unfold it.

Step 8
Expand the paper, and then fold the right corner to the left side along the middle vertical crease. Next, rotate the paper 90 degrees clockwise.

Step 9
Repeat step 5.
Here, we can see the middle vertical crease divides the bottom edge into two halves.
Fold the bottom right corner to the midpoint of the bottom edge (where the vertical crease intersects the bottom edge) to create a new point that bisects the right half of the bottom edge.
Finally, fold the bottom right corner again to this new point, creating another point that bisects the rightmost section of the bottom edge.

Step 10
Repeat step 6.
Fold the bottom left corner to the midpoint of the bottom edge to create a new point that bisects the left half of the bottom edge.
Finally, fold the bottom left corner again to this new point, creating another point that bisects the leftmost section of the bottom edge.

Step 11
Repeat step 7.
Fold the bottom left corner to meet the rightmost intersection point, leaving a vertical crease, and unfold it.
Fold the bottom right corner to meet the leftmost intersection point, leaving a vertical crease, and unfold it.

Step 12
Expand the paper completely, and then mountain fold the four creases indicated by the white dotted lines.

Step 13
Take the short vertical crease indicated by the dotted line, and fold it to align with the mountain crease indicated by the black dotted line.

Step 14
Rotate the paper 90 degrees from back to front, and flatten the paper. Then, rotate it back and expand it completely.

Step 15
Repeat steps 13 to 14 for the other three sides, and flip the paper from left to right to make the white side face up.

Step 16
Fold up the bottom corner along the topmost horizontal crease, then fold the right section of the bottom edge indicated by the black line along the dotted line, aligning it with the white line vertically extending from the intersection point formed by creases indicated by the white spot [pictures 1 and 2]
Then, fold the resulting layer toward the bottom side along the dotted line connecting two white spots [picture 3].
Finally, fold the right corner to the left side along the dotted line [pictures 4 and 5].

Step 17
Unfold the paper completely and flip it from front to back to make the red side face up.

Step 18
Mountain fold the creases indicated by the white dotted lines, and valley fold the creases indicated by the black dotted lines, crease them well, and expand the paper.

Step 19
Repeat steps 16 to 18 for the other three sides.

Step 20
Fold down the top corner along the middle horizontal crease, then fold the paper in half vertically from right to left.

Step 21
Fold the top right corner diagonally along the dotted line, crease it well, and unfold it. Then, expand the paper completely.

Step 22
Flip the paper from left to right.

Step 23
Mountain fold the creases indicated by the red dotted lines, and valley fold the vertical crease of the center small square indicated by the black dotted line. Then, use both your hands to take the left and right mountain creases, and push them toward the center along the short valley crease.

Step 24
Rotate the paper 90 degrees from back to front to lay it flat, and press down the upright flap to the right side.
Flip the paper from left to right, and similarly, press down the upright flap on this side to the right side.

Step 25
Fold down the left section of the top edge, then turn the paper over from left to right and fold the top layer upward.

Step 26
Flip the paper from left to right, and make eight mountain creases indicated by the red dotted lines.

Step 27
Flip the paper from left to right, and gently expand the pleat on the right side. Then, mountain fold the creases indicated by the white dotted lines, and valley fold the creases indicated by the black dotted lines.
The shape of the creases made here is similar to the one in step 18, which is a small triangle.

Step 28
Repeat the previous step for the other three sides, and rotate the paper 45 degrees clockwise.

Step 29
Mountain fold the creases indicated by the white dotted lines, and valley fold the creases indicated by the black dotted lines. Then, fold the four mountain creases of the outer area in a counterclockwise direction along the valley creases. Note that when doing this step, press down the four corners of the paper at the same time to make the center of the paper, or the pistil, protrude upward.
Next, rotate the rose 90 degrees from back to front, fold two adjacent petals together, and then repeat this for the other three sides to tighten the wrapping of the rose petals.

Step 30
Here, I will show you the shape that the top and bottom of this origami rose should have taken by now.

Step 31
Lift the petal layer on one side, and then mountain fold the crease indicated by the red dotted line on the petal layer below. Next, fold the bottom left side of this layer upwards along the crease indicated by the black dotted line [pictures 1 to 3].
Repeat this for the other three sides.

Step 32
Rotate the rose 180 degrees from front to back, focus on the bottom right petal, and view it from the bottom right side. Then, rotate it 90 degrees from back to front [pictures 1 to 2].
Lift the small white triangular flap, and then fold the bottom right corner of the layer located to the left of it and above it along the dotted line [pictures 3 to 4].
Then, unfold it, and valley fold the crease indicated by the black dotted line, and mountain fold the crease indicated by the white dotted line [pictures 5 to 6]

Step 33
Repeat the previous step for the other three sides.

Step 34
Flip the paper from back to front, fold the top right corner of the top flap along the crease indicated by the dotted line, crease it well, and unfold it.

Step 35
Rotate the rose 90 degrees from front to back, and fold down the flap you folded in the previous step to expand this side [pictures 1 and 2].
Make two mountain creases indicated by the red dotted lines, and fold the top and right edges of this side backward [pictures 3 and 4].
Finally, fold the bottom left corner upward along the crease indicated by the black dotted line.

Step 36
Rotate the rose 90 degrees from back to front, and repeat the previous step for the other three flaps.

Step 37
Turn the rose over from front to back and another 90 degrees from back to front [pictures 1 and 2].
Press down the outermost petal on this side [pictures 3 and 4], and make a valley crease on the corner of this edge [picture 5].
Finally, lift the petal you just pressed down.

Step 38
Repeat the previous step for the other three sides.

Step 39
Gently fold down the right edge of each petal and sharpen the tip.
