- Folding time: 20 minutes
- Paper: 15ร15 cm
- Difficulty: Middle
Material
Prepare a piece of 15ร15 cm origami square paper, with different colors on each side, to create a 10ร7 cm origami giraffe. Other sizes of square paper are also practicable.
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Place the paper with the desired display color side up to begin folding, fold it in half horizontally, and unfold it.
Step 2
Fold it in half vertically, and unfold it.
Step 3
Flip the paper over from the left to the right.
Step 4
Fold the bottom right edge to align with the top left edge, crease it well, and unfold it.
Step 5
Fold the bottom left edge to align with the top right edge, and unfold it.
Step 6
Shape the left and right creases, and push the left, right, and top points to meet the bottom point, then flatten it to get a small square.
Step 7
Fold the bottom left and right edges of the top layer to align with the middle vertical crease, crease them well then unfold them.
Step 8
Fold down the top point of the paper along the dotted line that connects the two red spots, and unfold it.
Step 9
Open the pocket based on the crease created by the previous step. Then lift up the top layer, and use your hands to flatten the pocket.
Step 10
Flip it over from the left to the right.
Step 11
Fold the bottom left and right edges to align with the middle vertical crease, and unfold them.
Step 12
Repeat step 9.
Open the pocket based on the crease created by the previous step. Then lift up the top layer, and use your hands to flatten the pocket.
Step 13
Rotate it 90 degrees from the front to the back, then bring the upper two layers together on the top, and the lower two layers together on the bottom.
Next, rotate it 90 degrees clockwise, and 90 degrees from the back to the front to lay it flat.
Step 14
Fold up the bottom left edge to align with the edge indicated by the black line, then fold up the bottom part of this folded layer along its horizontal crease indicated by the black dotted line.
Step 15
Rotate the paper 180 degrees from the left to the right to flip it over.
Similarly, fold up the bottom right edge to align with the edge indicated by the black line, then fold up this folded layer along the horizontal crease.
Step 16
Rotate it 90 degrees from the left to the right, then expand it.
Step 17
Fold the top triangle down, and close this opening, then rotate the paper 90 degrees from the right to the left.
Step 18
Rotate it 180 degrees from the front to the back to turn the paper over.
Step 19
Lift the bottom left layer, and shape a crease as the red dotted line in the first picture shows. Then take this crease and the layer above the crease, and fold them to the right along the black dotted line.
Step 20
Rotate it 180 degrees from the left to the right to flip it over.
Then just as you did in the previous step, shape a crease indicated by the white dotted line in the second picture. Next, take this crease and the layer above the crease, and finally fold them to the left along the black dotted line.
Step 21
Fold the top left layer of the middle part to the right, then fold up the bottom point a little, then fold the next left layer to the right.
Next, fold the right point of the top right layer to meet the vertical crease along the black dotted line, as you can see in the fourth picture, and fold the next right layer in the same way.
Finally, fold these two layers back to the left side.
Step 22
Flip the paper over from the left to the right.
Step 23
Similarly, fold the top right layer to the left, then fold up the bottom point a little, then fold the next right layer to the left as well.
Next, fold the left point of the top left layer to meet the vertical crease along the black dotted line, as you can see in the fourth picture, and fold the next left layer in the same way.
Finally, fold these two layers back to the right side.
Step 24
We are going to create other two legs.
Rotate it 90 degrees from the right to the left, then expand the bottom part, then cut it along its vertical crease for about half of the crease.
Step 25
Fold the left and right points to the center along the black dotted lines, then open these two corners, and fold up their bottom points a little, and close them.
Next, close this bottom part, and rotate it 90 degrees from the left to the right.
By now, its four legs are complete.
Step 26
Rotate it 90 degrees from the left to the right, expand the paper as the second picture shows, then fold the left and right points toward the center along the black dotted lines.
Step 27
Close this top part, and rotate the paper 90 degrees from the right to the left to lay it flat, then cut it a little as you can see in the third picture.
Step 28
Rotate it 90 degrees from the right to the left, then slightly open the top part from the back. Next, press down the top section, and fold down the top point a little. Finally, close and flatten this top part and rotate it 90 degrees from the left to the right.
Step 29
Draw eyes and spots on it.
