As kids, we used building blocks to build furniture, such as chairs. Now, we can use a piece of paper to create a very realistic origami dinner chair.
This creative and fun origami project features a classic chair design, with a high backrest, a comfortable seat, and sturdy four legs. Its realistic and detailed appearance makes it a standout piece in your origami collection and a perfect addition to any micro landscape.
This is an interesting origami project that only requires a piece of paper and some folding to create a miniature version of a chair that we use every day. You can use it to complement your dollhouse or simply use it as a decorative element.

- Folding time: 20 minutes
- Paper: 15ร15 cm
- Difficulty: Middle
Material
Get a piece of 15ร15 cm square paper to create a 3.3ร3.3ร6 cm origami dinner chair. Different colors of paper may bring different feelings, so feel free to experiment with different colors or patterns of paper to make it.
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Place the paper with the desired display side facing down, fold it, and unfold it in half diagonally, then vertically, leaving two creases.
Step 2
Fold the four points to the center point form by creases, then flip the paper over from left to right.
Step 3
Fold and unfold it in half diagonally from two directions separately.
Step 4
Turn over the paper from left to right, and rotate it 45 degrees clockwise. Then, mountain fold the left and right creases, fold the left, right, and top points to meet the bottom point along the existing creases, getting a small square.
Step 5
Fold up the bottom point of the top layer to meet the top point, crease it well, and unfold it.
Step 6
Fold up the bottom point of the top layer to meet the center intersection point formed by creases, and unfold it.
Step 7
Fold the top point indicated by the red spot to meet the other red spot, the intersection point of the crease you made in the previous step, and the vertical crease. Crease it well, and unfold it.
Step 8
Rotate the paper 90 degrees from back to front, then expand the paper.
Step 9
Mountain fold the four creases indicated by the red dotted lines, then rotate the paper 45 degrees clockwise.
Step 10
Mountain fold the four short creases on each point of the middle square, then push the midpoint of each edge of this square toward the center, getting four flaps. Bring the top and right flaps together on the right side, and the bottom and left flaps together on the left side.
Step 11
Open this opening by pulling the top and bottom edges to the sides, then take out the four layers tucked in the center, and flatten the fold along the existing creases. Finally, rotate the paper 90 degrees from back to front.
Step 12
Fold up the bottom point of the top layer to meet the top point to leave a horizontal crease and unfold it. Then, open the pocket and fold up the bottom point again. Flatten the fold along the horizontal crease you just made.
Step 13
Fold the top edge of the rectangle down to align with the bottom edge. Then unfold this layer by 90 degrees to make it stand upright. Finally, open and squash the left and right corners.
Step 14
We can see that there are two small squares on top. Fold them in half diagonally, as shown in the first picture. Fold the bottom edge of the top inverted trapezoid up so it aligns with the top edge.
Step 15
Flip the paper over from left to right, then fold up the bottom point of the top layer to meet the top point, leaving a crease, and unfold it.
Step 16
As you did in step 12, open the pocket and fold up the bottom point again. Flatten the fold along the horizontal crease you just made.
Step 17
Repeat step 13, fold the top edge of the rectangle down to align with the bottom edge. Then unfold this layer by 90 degrees to make it stand upright. Finally, open and squash the left and right corners.
Step 18
Repeat step 14, fold the two small squares on top in half diagonally, as shown in the first picture. Fold the bottom edge of the top inverted trapezoid up so it aligns with the top edge.
Step 19
Rotate it 90 degrees from front to back, then bring the top two flaps together and the bottom two flaps together. Next, rotate the paper 90 degrees clockwise, then another 90 degrees from back to top.
Step 20
Fold the two top points down, then fold the left and right edges to align with the center vertical line. Finally, fold the bottom point of the top layer upwards, then fold this layer upwards once more and tuck its left and right corners into the small pockets above them.
Step 21
Turn over the paper from left to right.
Step 22
Fold the two top points down, then fold the left and right edges to align with the center vertical line.
Step 23
Fold up the bottom point a little and unfold it [pictures 1 and 2]. Open the bottom part of the pocket, then push the bottom point upward along the crease you just made [pictures 3 and 4]. Finally, flatten the fold.
Step 24
Rotate the paper 90 degrees from front to back, then open the opening.
Step 25
Flip it from back to front, and this is the final shape of an origami dinner chair.
If you want to make your origami chair more special and beautiful, you can stick an origami bow on the back of the backrest, and you will get an elegant and lovely chair for a Western restaurant or banquet hall.
