Want some unique and special origami ideas for your gift box? Try this origami diamond. Compared with regular flat versions, this paper diamond has a perfectly symmetrical shape with characteristic facets.
The origami diamond has a flat, square base that tapers to a sharp point at the bottom. When viewed from the top, it appears octagonal. From the side, it reveals its height and depth as well as the facet.
Our favorite way is to include this origami diamond in a mobile theme with some other shapes like cubes or balls. So what will be your creations?

Material
Prepare a piece of 15×15 cm origami square paper or any other square paper.
Using metallic or glittery paper will make your paper diamond more expressive.
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Place the paper with the desired display color side up to begin folding, fold it in half horizontally, leaving a crease then unfold it.
Step 2
Fold it in half vertically, and unfold it.
Step 3
Flip the paper over.
Step 4
Fold the bottom right edge to align with the top left edge, crease it well then unfold it.
Step 5
Fold the bottom right edge to align with the top left edge, and unfold it.
Step 6
Shape the left and right edges, and push the left, right, and top points to meet the bottom point, then flatten the fold along the existing creases, creating a square.
Step 7
Fold the top left and right edges of the top layer to align with the middle vertical crease.
Step 8
Turn over the paper.
Step 9
Like before, fold the top left and right edges to align with the middle vertical crease.
Step 10
Cut out the bottom triangle, we only need the top triangle.
Step 11
Unfold the paper completely.
Step 12
Fold up the bottom edge along, making the bottom left and right points meet the existing creases as the pictures show, make a crease in the center then unfold it.
Step 13
Fold the remaining seven edges in the same manner as you did in the previous step, to create another seven creases in the center.
Step 14
Turn over the paper.
Step 15
Shape the lines shown by the red dotted lines that connect the bottom left and right points and the red spots.
Step 16
In the same way, crease out the other dotted lines that connect the two points of each edge to the two red spots.
Step 17
Flip the paper over.
Step 18
Lift the middle vertical crease indicated by the red dotted line, then put the left and right points of this edge together, creating a flap. Finally, push this flap down to the left.
Step 19
Pinch the left edge of the flap you made in the previous step from the back of the paper, leaving a crease, as you can see in the first three pictures, then unfold this flap.
Step 20
Shape the flap again, and push it down to the right side.
Step 21
Like before, shape the right edge of the flap from the back of the paper, leaving a crease then unfold the flap.
Step 22
Repeat steps 18 to 21 for the other seven edges, and push each edge toward the center slightly.
Step 23
Bring all corners together toward the center, and apply glue on both sides of each corner. Finally, stick them well.
Step 24
Flip the model over, this is the final shape of your origami diamond.
