Fold a fun and cute origami button together, inspired by the four arrow keys on a computer keyboard! Each button consists of three parts, two small boxes and a spring which helps the button to recover and pop up smoothly after being pressed down.

Material

Prepare eight pieces of 7.5ร—7.5 cm origami square paper and four pieces of 6.5ร—6.5 cm square paper.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Take out one of the 7.5ร—7.5 cm orange paper, and place it with the desired display color side down to begin folding. Fold it in half horizontally, crease it well, and unfold it.

Step 2

Fold it in half vertically, crease it well and unfold it, creating an intersection point formed by these two creases at the center of the paper.

Step 3

Fold the four points to meet the intersection point.

Step 4

Hold the paper in your hand so that it bends in the same way as the picture shows, like an โ€œSโ€, then flatten this edge, creating two creases to divide this edge into three equal parts.

Step 5

Fold the bottom right edge toward the top left along the dotted line (formed by extending vertically from the point you just made to the bottom left edge). Crease it well then unfold.

Step 6

Fold the top left edge to align with the crease you made in the previous step, and unfold it.

Step 7

Fold the bottom left edge toward the top right along the dotted line, to align with the line connecting by the two red points. (the red points are formed by the intersection of the two creases you just made and the slits).

Crease it well then unfold.

Fold the top right edge to align with the crease you just made, and unfold it.

Step 9

Rotate it for 45 degrees clockwise.

Step 10

Unfold the top and bottom triangles.

Step 11

Lift the left and right edges along the creases shown by the dotted lines, making them stand upright.

Step 12

Bring up the top part and make it stand along the crease shown by the black dotted line.

Mountain fold the creases on the left and right shown by the red dotted lines, then push them to the center, and finally, place them well as the last picture shows.

Step 13

Fold the top point down along the edge shown by the dotted line, adjust the top triangle to fit into the white part at the bottom of the box.

Step 14

Similar to step 12, bring up the bottom part and make it stand along the crease shown by the black dotted line.

Mountain fold the creases on the left and right shown by the red dotted lines, then push them to the center, and finally, place them well as the last picture shows.

Fold the bottom layer along the edges indicated by the black dotted line.

Step 16

Use the three remaining 7.5ร—7.5 cm orange square pieces of paper to fold three more boxes like this one.

Fold the four pieces of 6.5ร—6.5 cm paper in the same manner.

Step 18

Take out one of the 7.5ร—7.5 cm square blue paper, place it with the blue side facing up, then fold it in half horizontally, and unfold it.

Step 19

Fold the top and bottom edges to align with the horizontal crease, then repeat this.

Fold this paper in half vertically, leaving a crease, and unfold it.

Step 21

Fold the left and right edges to align with the middle vertical crease, then these two edges to their original side to align with the left and right edges of the paper, and finally, unfold them.

Step 22

Fold the right edge indicated by the red line to align with the crease indicated by the grey line, leaving a crease, and unfold it.

Similarly, fold the left edge to align with the crease indicated by the grey line on the right side, and unfold it.

Step 23

Unfold the paper, then cut it along the middle horizontal crease.

Step 24

Apply glue to the right side of the left sheet and glue the two sheets together.

Step 25

Fold the top and bottom edges to align with the middle horizontal crease, then fold the paper in half horizontally from bottom to top.

Step 26

Mountain fold the creases indicated by the red dotted lines, and valley fold the creases indicated by the black dotted lines, then rotate the paper 90 degrees from front to back, and finally, push the two ends toward the center.

Step 27

Make four springs in this manner.

Step 28

Place the four springs in the four boxes made with 7.5ร—7.5 cm square paper separately, then cover them with the four smaller boxes made with 6.5ร—6.5 cm square paper.

Step 29

Rotate the top one 90 degrees from back to front, rotate the left one 90 degrees from right to left, and rotate the right one 90 degrees from left to right.

Then, apply glue to the upward-facing side of each rotated button.

Step 30

Glue these four buttons together and draw an arrow for each of them.
