In the world of origami, every piece of paper holds infinite possibilities. Small, colorful gum wrappers are excellent materials for creative crafts. They are lightweight and flexible, and their sparkling appearance makes them perfect for creating origami stars. The finished stars resemble the twinkling stars in the sky, shining brightly.

If you are new to origami, start here from our beginner guide to know the basics and how to read the step-by-step instructions.
- Folding time: 10 minutes
- Paper: Gum Wrapper
- Difficulty: Easy
Material
Some of the gum wrappers are rectangular, while some are square. The paper star we make in this instruction is folded from a square gum wrapper.
If your gum wrapper is rectangular, you can start by cutting it into a square and follow the first step. If you already have a square wrapper, you can begin directly from the second step.

Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Fold the left edge of the rectangle gum wrapper to align with the top edge, then fold the right edge to the left side. Crease well and expand the paper, cut the paper along the vertical crease to get a square paper.

Step 2
Place the square gum wrapper with the desired display side face up, fold it in half horizontally, leaving a crease, and unfold it.

Step 3
Fold it in half vertically, leaving a crease, and unfold it.

Step 4
Flip the paper from left to right.

Step 5
Fold the paper in half diagonally from bottom right to top left, leaving a crease, and unfold it.

Step 6
Fold the paper in half diagonally from bottom left to top right, leaving a crease, and unfold it.

Step 7
Take the midpoint of the left and right edges, and push them to meet the bottom edge’s midpoint along the existing creases. Flatten the fold to get a triangle.

Step 8
Fold the left and right edges of the top layer to align with the vertical crease, leaving two creases, and unfold them.

Step 9
Fold the left edge of the top layer to align with the crease you made in the previous step on the right side, then fold it back to the left side along the center vertical crease.

Step 10
Repeat this for the right side.
Fold the right edge of the top layer to align with the crease you made in step 8 of the left one, then fold it back to the right side along the center vertical crease.

Step 11
Turn the paper over from left to right.

Step 12
Fold the right edge toward the left side, ensure the two corners indicated by the red spots meet, then fold this edge back to the right side along the center vertical line, to align with the right edge of the underneath layer.

Step 13
Similarly, fold the left edge toward the right side, ensuring the two corners indicated by the red spots meet. Then, fold this edge back to the left side along the center vertical line, to align with the left edge of the underneath layer.

Step 14
Fold the bottom left and right corners of the top layer upward along the dotted line.
As you lift them, press down on the small left and right corners in the center to create two small triangles. Finish by flattening it.

Step 15
Gently press the top corners down to refine the star shape.

Step 16
Flip the paper from left to right, and this is your gum wrapper origami star.
